2018 Trial Dates Set for Seven State Class Action Lawsuits over Syngenta GMO Corn

U.S. District Judge John Lungstrom has scheduled trial dates for seven more state class action lawsuits in the Syngenta GMO corn multidistrict litigation.  The litigation involves U.S. corn producers’ claims of economic damages caused by Syngenta’s decision to market genetically modified strains of its corn seed before it was approved by China.  Upon discovery of the GMO trait in U.S. shipments, China stopped purchasing U.S. corn in 2013.

Six of the seven separate lawsuits have been consolidated and will be heard together:

  • Arkansas and Missouri – January 22, 2018
  • Illinois and Nebraska – April 4, 2018
  • Iowa and South Dakota – May 14, 2018
  • Ohio – October 8, 2018

The first state class action lawsuit to be tried resulted in a $217.7 million verdict for Kansas corn producers in June.  GRG attorney Don Downing was a co-lead counsel for the plaintiffs and will be for these 2018 trials.

The choice of a lawyer is an important decision that should not be based solely on advertising.
