$8.9 Million Dollar Recovery in Qui Tam Whistleblower Case
Morry Cole recently helped a courageous whistleblower bring a False Claims Act (FCA) case to successful conclusion.
The False Claims Act (FCA) allows private citizens, known as "qui tam relators," to sue on behalf of the U.S. government to recover damages from those who have defrauded the government. This "qui tam" provision enables individuals with evidence of fraud, such as overbilling or submitting false applications, to file a lawsuit, the government can then choose to join the case or let the relator proceed independently. Successful cases can result in substantial penalties and a share of the recovery for the whistleblower.
After a lengthy investigation, Morry filed the case under seal in the U.S. District Court for Eastern Missouri. Meetings with the U.S. attorney’s office persuaded them to intervene and the case proceeded with joint cooperation. The case resolved and led to a substantial recovery for the United States.
