Downing Presenter at Leading National and International Legal Organization Events
Gray Ritter Graham attorney Don Downing, who heads the firm’s Class Action and Commercial Litigation practice group, recently presented before and was appointed to committees of several leading legal organizations.
Downing attended the October International Academy of Trial Lawyers (IATL) Mid-Year meeting in New Orleans, and after the meeting was appointed by the IATL president as Co-Chair of the Missouri State Committee and as a member of the International State, Province and Country Chair Committee. IATL invites only lawyers who have attained the highest level of advocacy, and limits Fellowship to 500 active lawyers in the United States and more from nearly 40 other countries.
The IATL’s purpose is to:
- Promote reforms in the law
- Facilitate the administration of justice
- Cultivate the science of jurisprudence
- Promote the rule of law internationally
- Elevate the standards of integrity, honor, and courtesy in the legal profession
Don served on the steering committee and was a presenter on several class action topics at the October “Class Action Litigation Forum” in New Orleans. The Forum is an annual meeting of up to 48 leading U.S. Plaintiffs’ Class Action litigators. They are invited based on their experience and expertise in consumer class actions.
That same month, he made three presentations at the University of Missouri School of Law - to a torts class and a trial practice class, and gave a lecture on Professionalism on behalf of ACTL.
At the November American Agricultural Law Association’s Annual Agricultural Law Symposium, Don’s was a featured speaker on the $400 million dicamba multidistrict settlement, for which he led negotiations on behalf of U.S. farmers.
Later that month he spoke on several topics relating to mass torts at the Mass Torts Conference in New York City.
Earlier this year Don was appointed to the Missouri State Committee for the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL). ACTL is recognized as among the preeminent organizations of trial lawyers in North America, dedicated to maintaining and improving the standards of trial practice, professionalism, ethics and the administration of justice.
