Gray Ritter Graham Investigating New GM Recall for Defective Ignition Keys

Those who own or have been hurt in an accident involving any of almost 6 million vehicles recalled by GM this year may have legal claims against the automaker.

Buick.pngFollowing the recall of 2.6 million vehicles for faulty ignition switches in February and March of this year, General Motors recently announced a similar recall of an additional 3.16 million vehicles. This recall focuses on a defective ignition key. The new group of vehicles encompasses an entirely different list of makes and models than the previous ignition switch recall, and includes seven automobiles in model years ranging from 2000 to 2014:

  • Buick Lacrosse (Model Year 2005-2009)
  • Chevrolet Impala (Model Year 2006-2014)
  • Cadillac Deville (Model year 2000-2005)
  • Cadillac DTS (Model Year 2007-2011)
  • Buick Lucerne (Model Year 2006-2011)
  • Buick Regal LS & GS (Model Year 2005)
  • Chevy Monte Carlo (Model Year 2006-2008)

As with the prior GM recall, owners of these vehicles are warned that the defective keys could suddenly move to the "Run" or "Accessory" positions, which could cause an engine stall, a loss of power steering and brakes, as well as preventing the air bags from inflating in a crash.

The defective ignition switch in the previous GM recall has been linked to at least 13 deaths and dozens of crashes. The current GM defective key recall has been linked to at least six accidents.

Gray Ritter Graham has filed a lawsuit seeking compensation for personal injuries suffered in a crash caused by the defective switch, and is investigating several other crashes involving these vehicles that caused injuries. The firm has also filed two consumer fraud class-action lawsuits seeking compensation for vehicle owners related to the prior General Motors recalls. The vehicles covered by that recall are:

  • Chevrolet Cobalt - 2005-2010 model years
  • Pontiac G5 - 2005-2010
  • Saturn Ion - 2003-2007
  • Chevrolet HHR - 2006-2011
  • Pontiac Solstice - 2006-2010
  • Saturn Sky - 2007-2010
  • Opel GT - 2007
  • Pontiac Pursuit - 2005-2006

We are now investigating the most recent recall. Missourians who purchased and currently own one of the GM recalled vehicles and believe they have a legal claim - whether or not they have been hurt in an accident - can contact Gray Ritter Graham. We are handling both personal injury claims and consumer fraud claims relating to both groups of recalled GM vehicles.
